The following questions are a compilation of the questions and concerns identified in an informal polling of eportfolio community members. The answers are the vendor's responses.

What vision or understanding of learning informed the design of your tool?

Our vision promotes a student-centered approach by putting the control of student data in their hands.By allowing students to purchase their own accounts we enable student users to grant rights to institutions.

Does your tool allow students to control permissions? Can they share with people outside of the institution? How? (e.g., advisor, prospective employer, etc.).

Yes, students maintain permission for public/private viewing of portfolios, downloads, and public/private comments and feedback.Sharing is allowed one-to-one within the application and publicly via email or social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and embed code).

How does your vision of learning promote a student-centered approach to education? (e.g. student ownership of his/her learning)

Our vision promotes a student-centered approach by putting the control of student data in their hands. Pathbrite is tailored for digital native students who need a platform to curate their online lives along with evidence of their learning and achievements. Students purchase their own Pathbrite accounts and grant access to portfolio content in Courses. Schools then store copies of student work product for institutional reporting and accreditation.

What is the process for inviting feedback on work or artifacts?

Teachers can provide feedback on individual artifacts or full portfolios.Students can share one-to-one with faculty and administrators to get feedback or when they are submitted assignments in courses for scoring and grading.

Describe how your tool promotes and supports student-to-student collaboration.

The Courses feature enables group collaboration by allowing students to view student work when submitting assignments that are tied to learning outcomes established by the teacher.Students can comment on individual artifacts or complete portfolios. They can favorite student profiles, which serve as a repository for portfolios. They can also favorite individual artifacts and portfolios. All Favorited content can be viewed in the Favorites tab and reference for inspiration later.

How does your tool support and encourage the reflection process for students and faculty?

The main functionality of Pathbrite’s Portfolios for Educators product is collaboration, feedback and insight into student work. Teachers can drill down into portfolio examplars, examples of student evidence of learning, share course resources and provide comments and feedback on portfolio artifacts and shared content. Students receive notifications on all interactions with their portfolio content and can respond in kind.

How does your tool address and support institutional level assessment needs (e.g., aggregating student data and generating reports for accreditation)?

In March 2013, Pathbrite will launch our v2.0 of the Portfolios for Educators product that will allow institutions will be able to maintain records of student work for intuitional records. Our platform allows for institutions to use evidence of student learning when accumulating student artifacts for the accreditation process.Teachers can view assignments from a course/class roster view, as well as individual student perspective. The data will be reported to administrators who want to roll up course, department or institution-wide views into total output, outcomes and engagement.

Does your application integrate with enterprise systems? Which ones? Do you have examples of effective integration in support of advising or other student services you can share?

Yes, we are LTI compliant which gives us the ability to integrate with numerous Learning Management and Student Information Systems. We also have partnerships with education content sources like McGraw-Hill Campus that allow us to source class resources for students.

What is the main strength of your application?

The main strength of our application lies in our ability to engage students with a new web application experience that improves the quality of reflection and selection of learning artifacts.

What weaknesses have been identified relative to the user experience and shared with you?

The one area we need to improve is on our integration with rubric creation software. We allow educators to import rubrics into the Course dashboard however we are still evaluating ways to simply the process so the evidence of how student work is assessed is readily available.
